Film-Icon   Story, from the Director:

This Film is a dark satire on how some people use nationalism for their political or other benefits. We bet this film will give you something to think upon and fulfil your appetite for a nice comic platter. It’s high time we start observing the surroundings rather than believing on what we are getting from the media.

The Safe Game is directed by Gaurav Khandelwal. He hails from Jaipur and has done his schooling from there. His family has always been supportive of his choice or work and encouraged him since his childhood when he showed interest in painting, animation and photography etc.  He has done more than 40 plays in the past 8 years. He has written several short plays like – “Andhvishwas, Mada Yuga, Mai Kaun.” He has the feather of writing and directing short films to his cap as well for companies like Must Bol Campaign, Afterdust Geeks Motion Pictures, Ceramic Tableware Pvt Ltd. He worked as 2nd Assistant Director for film “Khawamakhaan Yun Hi.”

“I got the idea to make this film from the discussions I had with my friends on nationalism where they use to get very aggressive and called me desh drohi for pointing out my opinion. I feel that people use nationalism to get their work done while making a fool of common people. They use armed forces etc other issues for their profit and are able to shut anyone up. Many a times there are some big news which are shown by the media to cover up what is really going on and they can easily fool us. No one ever thinks why this piece of news was shown to us or where did it come from. What could be the agenda behind it or what are they trying to cover up this time. We took to a vert satire way to present our views.”

“My team was mostly the people I had worked with in theatre. I live in Bombay but I had come to Jaipur since I met with an accident. That’s when I decided to shoot this film in Jaipur itself. I shot it in a local market and had to finish its shooting in 3 hours. The scenes we showed were in a public area and we had to shoot it without catching too much attention. I went to the Pao Bhaji stall for 2-3 days continuously to gain his confidence and see the scene around afternoon. I had to make sure that the local people didn’t get influenced and start beating up the person who was playing the role of pocket thief thinking it was a real scene.”
